Cross Polarization

Posted by visualcounterpoint on January 2, 2010 at 7:35 AM

Greg A Kiser has set a new lesson in Tips and Tricks that has kept me busy with my camera despite the bad weather.

His article describes the technique better than I could so please follow the link if you are interested in playing with light.

The only suitable plastic object that I have is an embedded dandelion clock.

The unicorn was added to increase the fantasy atmosphere and the final photograph was produced in Photoshop layers.

I am sure I will be playing again with this technique in the near future after I have found some more objects to fuel my imagination.

Morning

Fantasia

Nightfall

Midnight Magic

The Lion and the Unicorn

Wow!!! I am impressed with what you have done here. I love how you have gone with a more subtle look than what I was doing with mine. I would have never thought about doing silhouettes with just a small portion of the picture cross polarized. The one where the unicorn is "playing with the ball" is beautiful!! I like the photoshopped ones as well, but they aren't my favorites. You have really done well with this assignment...I'm very proud of you.

Thank you Greg for your very encouraging comment, but most of all thanks for sharing this technique that has now got me 'hooked'.
I have already added one more photograph to Fun, Frolics and Photoshop having found a paperweight that gave a rather interesting picture.

Liz, this is a very addictive technique and can be done with so many things. I would love to see what you have added, but can't seem to find the new pictures. I really do love what you have done with the technique and spent about an hour last night pondering if I had access to anything that would work similarly. I have just showed these pictures to my fiance' and she loves them too. I can see you surpassing me on this technique and that makes me very happy!!

Greg,
I could never surpass you in any technique.
The picture is posted on Fun Frolics and Photoshop under the title of Blowing Bubbles.
I omited 'Forever' in the title although the longer I think about it the more it seems appropriate.
